Tingbjerg library and house of culture
Tingbjerg is a part of Copenhagen in Denmark. The area has been characterised by many unemployed and has been known for unrest. The two housing associations FSB and KAB has cooperated with the local council to build the new library and house of culture. In unison with a local advisory board they have reached this solution: A tall narrow building that falls naturally into the area using the same colour of tile on the outside as the nearby school. The A.P.Møller Fond has contributed with one mio. euro to make the small park in front of the building. The building is constructed to merge the entrance to the library and the public school into one – the areal is called 'the kiss'.

About the Makerspace in Tingbjerg
Architectural idea or principle
The building has been nicknamed 'the ghetto blaster' or 'the flat screen'. It is more or less a triangular building with one glass facade.
On the ground floor / basement you find a concert hall combined with the pick-up area for books. On the first floor is an area for café, makerspace, sowing and joiners' workshop. On the top floor you find a few bookshelves but most books are away at remote storage.
The view from the top floor is very beautiful both in and out. Apart from a few meeting rooms everything is open and connected. The idea is that local inhabitants will have access to the building at all hours using their Civil Registration Card as admission. Contact with the librarian outside the normal opening hours can be reached via the screens or by phone.
